Missouri has relatively few private schools and tutoring centers for students with dyslexia, but recent legislation has things heading in the right direction for public schools, starting with mandatory early identification of dyslexia in the 2018-19 school year. Note that Missouri and Kansas share a branch of the International Dyslexia Association. |

House Bill 2379 mandates mandatory screening of all students for dyslexia by 2018-19, ‘reasonable classroom support’ and in-service training. If fully implemented, this legislation should serve Missouri families well. The same Bill created a legislative task force on dyslexia which will “make recommendations for a statewide system for identification, intervention, and delivery of supports for students with dyslexia, as described in the act”.
In short, things are headed in the right direction in Missouri.
